Does interpreting a religious service scare the hell out of you? Come to Introduction to Interpreting in Christian Settings! In this workshop you will get an overview of the themes found in the Christian faith that will assist you in finding the point within the form. You will learn about what to expect in different types of churches or settings and how you can best prepare for them. You will also pick up some tools to apply to any Christian setting including services, weddings, funerals, and graduations. This workshop is for any interpreters or future interpreters. Attend mass from 10-11 AM April 8th and observe Arricka Noe interpret at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress St., Portland, Maine. Grab lunch and meet us down the street at 12 PM for the workshop.
Arricka Noe has attended church regularly since she was young. She majored in American Sign Language Interpreting at Rochester Institute of Technology and there began interpreting in a variety of Christian settings including both liturgical and evangelical services, conferences, and student clubs. After graduating in 2009, Arricka moved to Maine as a freelance interpreter. She continues to be a part of a faith community and has interpreted for several Deaf ministries in the area including Catholic and evangelical ministries. She has also interpreted internationally for Deaf ministries including the Deaf Methodist Conference in 2009 in South Korea and the Fiji Gospel School for the Deaf in 2013. In Fiji, she volunteered for three months as an interpreter and a mentor and trainer to local interpreters. She enjoys bringing her experience and schema to her work in interpreting masses, services, conferences, retreats, weddings, funerals and a variety of other Christian events.
